Teaching Yoga to Seniors

April 1 - 4, 2015

Catherine Gillies (Kumari)

This training for yoga teachers and health-care professionals teaches how to adapt yoga practices to meet the needs of an aging population. A fit and active senior is more motivated to maintain independent daily living and a regular yoga practice can help. Learn to modify asanas for extra attention to joint and back care, postural strength and alignment, and how health issues may require further modifications such as chair yoga.  Explore ways to introduce breath work, guided relaxation, chanting, sound, and meditation into a yoga class for seniors. Help your students through the aging process by anchoring the spiritual teachings of yoga into their lives.
