Event Details

During this festival there will be exquisite evening performances of classical Indian music and dance. There will be a performance each evening by a different classical Indian musician or dancer. It is a rare occasion for such accomplished Indian musicians and dancers to come together in the West and to share their mastery with us and with each other. Join us for this very special occasion of uplifting and meditative music and dance performances.

Presenters

Anupama Bhagwat
Anupama Bhagwat is a refreshingly versatile sitarist of the current generation. She has performed at prestigious festivals and venues worldwide. Her sensitivity and erudition has taken her to the highest echelons of the modern genre, while remaining true to tradition. Under her Guru’s inspiring guidance, Anupama has acquired the finesse and technical nuances of the Gayaki style, while bringing out its lyrical beauty with the emotive cadences of the sitar. She is now an established artist, besides her concert appearances, Anupama conducts sitar workshops and lecture-demonstrations.

Pandit Ramesh Misra
Pandit Ramesh Misra is a phenomenon in the field of Indian classical music. Mastering one of the most difficult and unique string instruments, the 'Sarengi', Ramesh Misra is acclaimed as an outstanding artist of India. In addition to his appearance in most of the major music festivals of the world he has featured in numerous recordings including his own solos and earned a niche in the hearts of millions of music lovers. Pandit Ramesh Misra is a very high-ranking and gifted artist, whose music takes the audience to a divine world, a world of pure music.


Shubhangi Salhalkar
Shubhangi Salhalkar, brings a brilliant pedigree to her music. After her early tutelage with Smt. Kunda Vaishampayan, she spent several years learning from the renowned artistes Dr. Prabha Atre and Smt. Padma Talwalkar. In addition, Shubhangi has brought her own ardent riyaaz, creative imagination, and keen intellect to bear upon her art. She has developed a dynamic yet thoughtful vocal style that remains rooted in tradition while being uniquely her own. Shubhangi moved to the USA in 1992 and is recognized as one of the finest teachers in the San Francisco Bay Area. She is an inspiring mentor to many students, many of whom have started performing independently carrying forward her style of music.


Niharika Mohanty
Niharika Mohanty is a leading Odissi dancer in North America and has performed internationally as a soloist. Today, she works hard to impart her Guru’s style to many aspiring dancers, and for this purpose Niharika and several other students have set up Guru Shradha, a unique institution/non-profit organization in North America dedicated to Guru Kelucharan Mohapatra and his vision, style and technique. G.S Sachdev
G.S Sachdev is recognised worldwide as a master and one of the premier performers of the bansuri (North Indian flute). His pure and personal approach carry the listener beyond the mind into deep meditation.
 

 
Swapan Chaudhuri
Swapan Chaudhuri is considered to be one of the top masters of tabla in the world. He is director of Percussion at the Ali Akbar College of Music in San Rafael, California. He developed his skill through years of accompanying Ali Akbar Khan and other leading musicians of India.

Nitin Mitta
Nitin Mitta is one of the prominent young tabla players of his generation. His rare combination of technical virtuosity, spontaneity, clarity of tone, and sensitivity to melodic nuance has allowed him to perform with some of India’s most celebrated musicians.Nitin received his early training in Hyderabad from Pandit G. Satyanarayana. During his studies he won many accolades, including first prize in the All India Competition held in Kolkatta. To expand his repertoire of tabla compositions, he sought the guidance of Pandit Arvind Mulgaonkar of Mumbai, one of the most highly respected mentors of his generation. www.nitinmitta.org
