Humans of all cultures have a deep and instinctual need to express themselves creatively on a daily basis for physical, emotional and spiritual well-being. Often called “the Divine art,” music is a powerful vehicle for wellness and transformation. In this deep and joyful program, master teaching artist Stuart Fuchs, assisted by Sarah Carlisle, will guide you on a healing journey into the wonders of music.
The evening satsang performances will lift and inspire your heart. The afternoon workshops will explore creative play, listening deeply, and connecting to each other in the present moment through musical meditation techniques. You will leave with a personalized path for using music as a meditation method for cultivating greater presence and compassion.
Offered as 2 satsangs and 2 workshops (subject to change)
Stuart Fuchs is a performing and teaching artist who presents his innovative and holistic music workshops at ukulele and music festivals internationally. In his concerts, Stuart balances virtuosity and soul on his classical and Brazilian guitar, ukulele, Native American flute, and didjeridoo. Deeply committed to a compassionate and holistic vision of music education, in his workshops, he blends meditation, qigong, and yoga practice with practical music instruction and soulful improvisation process work. Stuart currently tours internationally and records with the world-renowned new age kirtan artist Snatam Kaur.
In 2014, Stuart was awarded a grant from the National Endowment of the Arts for his work bringing healing music to cancer patients at Roswell Park Cancer Institute, where he was an artist in residence for eight years.
Sarah Carlisle, who plays upright bass and mandolin, formally studied classical and jazz music at the Peabody Conservatory and Temple University. After spending more than ten years playing with orchestras and jazz ensembles in the Baltimore/DC area, she discovered kirtan and began collaborating with musicians in the genre. She currently tours internationally with renowned kirtan artist Snatam Kaur and has toured and recorded with many others in the genre including David Newman, Simrit Kaur, Ajeet Kaur, Aykanna, and Luna Ray.
